Today,
when most of us think of chain mail, we think of chivalric knights
and the crusades. The truth is chain mail started with the Celts a
millennium or so before that. The Romans used and adapted it to their
armour and it gave them further protection from those nasty barbarians.
Today
these ancient chain mail techniques are used to create unique and
stunning pieces of jewellery.
Using
the minimum of tools, your tutor Tania McLean will guide you through
the intricacies of this once ancient craft.
This
class, designed for students who have already attended the two day
beginner and advanced course, will take you one step further into
the more intricate chain maille weaves.
The
intensive day will cover the Jens Pinds Weaves (including the complex
6-in-1), Dragonscale, and Full and Half Persian Weaves.
Sample
pieces will be made in copper, brass and enamelled copper of each
of the weaves, with silver and gold fill kits available to purchase
on the day.
For
£25.00, Tania will provide enough copper and brass and enamelled
copper rings to complete (as full bracelets) the sample pieces started
in the class. Please remember to bring your two pairs of pliers.
Additional
kits in sterling silver and gold fill will be available for purchase
on the day
